About This Design
The Limited GLBTQ+
I felt this brief could not have been more perfectly written for my design. It is truly a kaleidoscope of words, colours, love and art.
I have changed the order of the acronym to fit The Limited GLBTQ+ The original acronym is LGBTQ+ is an evolving acronym that stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer that people use to describe their experiences of their gender, sexuality and physiological sex characteristics.
The catchphrases used are beautiful and easily relate to historical and political facts.
Here are some of my favourites: “Water’s delicate kiss, sun’s forceful energy, life longing for life, a dance of wondrous delights, you will never be bored. Enchanted world of consciousness. “ This phrase linked perfectly to the colours used in the gay pride flag designed by artist Gilbert Baker in 1978. Baker further explained the meaning behind each colour. Pink for sex, red for life, orange for healing, yellow for sunlight, green for nature, turquoise for art, indigo for harmony, and violet for spirit. I loved the way the phrases in the brief and the meanings of the colours are in sync.
Another phrase that caught my attention immediately:
“Friction we remove as you dare to live, and let live, innovating and step by step make the world more civilized. - Mutual respect, encouragement, trust and tolerance.” The protection of LGBTQ+ rights in South Africa is based on section 9 of the Constitution, which forbids discrimination on the basis of sex, gender or sexual orientation, and applies to government and private parties.
The wings – a repetition of the kaleidoscope of colours, love and art, a symbol of freedom and courage, your true happiness.
I hope through this design that viewers from all societies and groups in life are inspired to pledge diversity, dynamism and freedom in all aspects of life.
Be the designer of your own flag and proudly raise it. Find your true happiness and fly with bravery.
